Location of Canyon Life Museum Canyon Life Museum The Purpose of the museum is to help visitors learn about life in this North Santiam community between 1850 and 1950. Visitors who remember the earlier times enjoy reliving their younger days. The economy of the whole Canyon area was based entirely on the timber industry and the museum exhibits, photographs, publications and research collection focus on how people lived and worked. Open hours fluctuate with the seasons and potential visitors should call 503-897-4088 for information and open hours. The North Santiam Canyon offers visitors a variety of attractions in its 35-mile length. It is a river-cut canyon with steep hills on both sides of the North Santiam River, yielding activities such as hiking, boating (on Detroit Lake), fishing and camping. |
