Location of Gettysburg Diorama Gettysburg Diorama This miniature battlefield diorama is an incredible 1/72 scale model showing the three days of the Battle of Gettysburg. Depicting 6,000 acres replicating the entire battlefield as it appeared in 1863, the diorama covers 755 square feet of area. The diorama's original model maker, Jim Daugherty of Three Rivers Michigan, took two years to construct the second and third days of battle. Veteran battlefield guide and historian Jim Kralik had the entire diorama shipped to its present location, then took another year to complete the layout and add the first day of battle. Your visit to the diorama includes a light and sound show that depicts rifle and cannon fire in a dramatic thirty minute narrative describing the battle and its importance in the outcome of the Civil War. Seven vignettes built in the surrounding walls offer insights into the first day of fighting at McPherson Ridge. Other vignettes depict the Trostle Farm, Culp's Hill, the artillery barrage preceding Pickett's Charge, General Lee's headquarters, General Meade's headquarters and the Stewart-Custer fight in the Hanover Road area. |
