Location of Waugh House Museum Waugh House Museum The Waugh House Museum is in an 1826 federal style brick house that was built by James and A.P. Waugh. The brothers were early Greenville merchants. This was the first brick house built between Pittsburgh and Erie. There are eight rooms dedicated to Greenville's history. Each room features a different part of the town's history. One room honors early West Greenville residents, another honors the Waugh family. The Dr. Doyle parlor has artifacts of early Greenville doctors. Then there is a library, a military room, a Greenville civic room, an industrial room, and a room preserving the early hotel history. Children will enjoy their visit and have fun with a scavenger hunt. There are items in each room to be found. There are many interesting items that have been donated by the Greenville residents. You will find an ostrich egg from 1747 that was given as a wedding gift. There is a grandfather clock from 1795 that still works. View the fashions from the ladies clothing, jewelry, and hat collection. There are several hats that you can try on! There are artifacts from the old Opera House, school items, musical instruments, and early manufacturing and industry. The Waugh House Museum does a wonderful job portraying the history of the town. There are many fun and interesting items to be found. KAT'S VIEW The house was pretty cool. I went on their scavenger hunt. They hid the sled I was supposed to find by hanging clothes on it in the West Greenville Room. In the Judge Waugh Parlor, there was an ostrich egg that was given as a wedding gift, strange! In the Back hall, they had one of those hair curlers that look like they belong on an electric chair or in a torture chamber! |
