The Eternal Light Peace Memorial is located in the area of the first day of battle. At 1 pm, July 1, 1863 Major General Robert E.
Rodes' Confederates attacked from this hill, threatening Union forces on McPherson and Oak ridges. Seventy-five years later, more
than 1800 Civil War veterans helped dedicate this memorial to "Peace Eternal in a Nation United." Soldiers from both sides, North
and South, came together to dedicate the memorial and vow never to have our nation divided again.
