Centre Furnace Mansion
1001 East College Avenue
State College, Pennsylvania 16801
Voice: 814-234-4779

The mansion was the home of the ironmaster for Centre Furnace, the first charcoal iron furnace in Centre County. It was in this home that the documents were signed that created the Pennsylvania State University. When you tour the museum it is furnished to reflect the time from 1842 to 1891 when ironmaster Moses Thompson and his family resided here. There are many fine furnishings that not only reflect the family, but also the history of the town. There is one room with displays of the old furnace. It tells the history and the importance to the town that the Furnace was.

Centre Furnace Village includes the Centre Furnace Mansion, furnace stack, and surrounding eight acres. The National Register site represents a small portion of the late eighteenth century iron-making village once located here. Its interpretation is based on historical documentation and archaeological research, and includes carefully landscaped grounds with walkways and period gardens.

KAT'S VIEW

There were some interesting fans here. They were made someplace in Southeast Asia. There was an old grater in the kitchen that looked interesting. There were also several pieces of Iron Ore. They had a model of the house and inside it there was a tiny mouse and a tiny mouse trap. They also had a ghost hung up in the model's window!
