Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef
1/4 pound ground pork
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon onion seasoning
1/4 teaspoon garlic seasoning
1 teaspoon (or more) Chili powder
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 1/2 cups cooked or canned tomatoes
2 1/2 cups cooked or canned red beans

Directions:

Cook meats in a lightly greased, heavy saucepan until they have lost their color, stirring constantly. Add seasonings and tomatoes and cook, covered, until the meat is tender and the liquid has been reduced, about 2 hours. Add beans, if cooked, and continue to cook for 15 minutes. Adjust seasonings and serve in heated bowls with crisp salted crackers or crisp corn sticks.

Makes 5 to 6 servings

If dried beans are used, measure 1 cup into a container, cover generously with cold water and allow to soak overnight. Simmer with meat during entire cooking period.
