Ingredients: 3 cups sifted flour Directions: Sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder. With pastry knife cut shortening into flour as for pie dough. Beat egg in cup adding 3/4 or more of cold water making 1 cup. Blend ingredients, turn on floured board and knead to a smooth dough. Roll 1/2 inch in thickness. Spread thickly with softened butter, sprinkle with raisins, then grated maple sugar, then cinnamon. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut pieces 2 inches thick. Dip biscuits in caramel syrup and bake 30 minutes in 400 degree F. oven or until done. Remove from oven invert immediately. For caramel syrup melt 2 tablespoons butter with 1/2 cup dark corn syrup in a heavy skillet. |
