3 cups shifted flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup butter or margarine


Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, salt and sugar and sift again. add nuts. Combine the egg, milk and shortening, add the dry ingredients and stir only enough to blend. Pour into a greased loaf pan about 9 by 4 inches and bake in a 350-degree F. oven for about 1 hour, or until done.

Remove from the pan, cool and store overnight before slicing.
