Cream shortening with sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add dry ingredients, alternately with the applesauce, beating until smooth after each addition. Add vanilla, raisins and nuts and blend. Pour into an 8 or 9 inch square loaf pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until done. Frost with any desired frosting.
