Ingredients:

2 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:

Sift flour once, measure and resift twice with the baking soda, salt and spices. Cream shortening with sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add dry ingredients, alternately with the applesauce, beating until smooth after each addition. Add vanilla, raisins and nuts and blend. Pour into an 8 or 9 inch square loaf pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until done. Frost with any desired frosting.
