1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup cocoa
1 1/4 cups milk
2 cups sifted cake flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla


Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Cream butter thoroughly, slowly beat in sugar. Add beaten egg yolks then vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with milk, blend well. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into 2 9-in. buttered lightly floured layer pans and bake about 30 minutes in a 350 degree F. oven. Use boiled white frosting. Or add 1 cup diced marshmallows to the hot seven minute frosting after removing form stove. Beat mixture thoroughly.
