3/4 cup cocoa
1 1/4 cups milk
3/4 cup light brown sugar, pack firmly
2/3 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs, unbeaten
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups sifted pastry flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt


Stir cocoa into the hot milk and cool. Then stir in the brown sugar until well dissolved. Cream the butter, slowly add the granulated sugar and beat thoroughly. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Add the well sifted ingredients alternately with the milk mixture and blend all together. Pour into a buttered 10x10x2 pan and bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees. about 40 minutes. When cool, cover top and sides of cake with cocoa fudge frosting.
