Economy Spice Cake
Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup boiling water
1 cup raisins (more if desired)
1/3 cup lard
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cups flour
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions:
Boil sugar, water, lard, raisins together about 3 minutes until sugar is well dissolved. Put aside until cold. Sift flour, baking powder, spices together, add to above mixture, add flavoring. Bake in moderate oven. Use small square tin.
