2 cups sifted cake flour
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup milk
5 egg yolks, unbeaten
1 teaspoon vanilla


Sift flour once, measure and resift twice with the baking powder, salt and sugar, sifting them finally into a mixing bowl. Add shortening, half the milk, the egg yolks and vanilla. Mix until the flour is dampened, then beat 1 minute on slow speed. Add the remaining milk, blend and beat for 2 minutes. Turn into a greased 9x5x3 loaf pan or small tube pan or 9x9x2 loaf pan and bake in a 350 degree oven about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool and frost with any desired frosting.
