2 1/4 cups sifted graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sifted cake flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans


Roll graham crackers to crumbs with rolling pin, then sift and measure. Sift flour once, measure and resift twice with the baking powder, salt and graham cracker crumbs. Cream shortening with sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients, alternately with milk, beating until smooth after each addition. Add nuts and vanilla and blend. Bake in 2 greased 9 inch layer cake pans in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, or until done. Frost as desired.
