2 cups sifted cake flour
Sift flour once, measure, and resift twice with the baking soda, salt and spices. Cream shortening with sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients, alternately with prune juice, beating until smooth after each addition. Fold in prunes. Pour into a greased 10x10x2 pan and spread with topping made as follows: Beat egg whites until foamy with salt, then add sugar gradually, beating well after each addition and continue to beat until mixture holds in peaks. Spread over cake batter, sprinkle with nuts and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 50 to 55 minutes, or until done.
