1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 3/4 cups sifter cake flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
ripe berries


Cream butter, slowly beat in sugar. Add 1 egg at a time and beat briskly. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add vanilla. Blend well. Pour into buttered square 8-inch tin and bake in a 350 degree F. oven about 40 minutes. Test. Split while warm, place sweetened berries between layers and on top. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.
