1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup chopped pitted dates
1 cup chopped nuts


Beat the egg until frothy, then add the sugar gradually and continue to beat until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla and blend. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add alternately with the milk to the egg mixture. Fold in dates and nuts and pour into a greased 8 inch square pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 35 minutes, or until done. Serve warm or cold with slightly sweetened whipped cream or with a topping of vanilla ice cream.
