2 cups pitted red pie cherries (canned)
1 cup cherry juice and water
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch
dash salt
2 drops extract of almond
1 cup biscuit mix
1 tablespoon sugar
6 tablespoons milk


Measure cherries and juice into a saucepan with a tight fitting cover. Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt and add to the fruit. Cook and stir over moderate heat until the juice is thickened and clear. Add extract. Combine biscuit mix with sugar and milk and stir quickly until moistened, but not until the mixture is smooth. Drop from a teaspoon onto the bubbling cherry sauce. Cook for 5 minutes, then cover tightly and continue to cook without removing the cover for 10 to 12 minutes. Serve warm with plain or slightly sweetened whipped cream.
