6 baking apples
3/4 cup boiling water
3/4 cup sugar
grated rind of 1 orange


Wash apples, remove cores and peel 1 inch from stem ends. Arrange in a baking dish, add water and bake, covered, in a 350-degree oven for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender. Combine sugar, 1 cup of liquid drained from apples and grated orange rind. Simmer over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour over apples and place under broiler heat, 3 inches from the source of heat. Baste frequently with syrup until tops are golden in color.
