3 cups sliced peaches
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup sifted flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup milk


Slice peeled peaches and combine with the 1/2 cup of sugar and cinnamon in a lightly buttered baking dish. Dot with butter. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, sugar and salt and sift again. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk and stir until the flour is moistened. Knead lightly on a floured board for 1/2 minute, then pat or roll to about 1/2 inch thickness, or the size of the baking dish, cut slits in the top of the dough and fit over the peaches. Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve warm with cream.
