Beat eggs well, dissolve brown sugar in butter, add to eggs, add figs, dates, nutmeats and lemon rind. Sift flour once before measuring then sift again with salt and add. Dissolve soda in milk and add last. Fill greased mold or pan 2/3 full. Cover with waxed paper and steam in a covered kettle 2 hours. Do not open kettle until through steaming.
