1 1/2 pounds vanilla wafers
1/2 cup butter
2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 eggs
3 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup blanched slivered almonds, toasted
slightly sweetened whipped cream


Crush the vanilla wafers and roll the crumbs fine, then measure. Butter a pan about 7 by 11 inches in size and pack half the crumbs into the bottom. Cream the butter with the sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add melted, cooled chocolate and blend. Add vanilla and nuts. Turn into the pan and cover with the remaining crumbs. Chill overnight. To serve, cut in squares and top with slightly sweetened whipped cream.
