1 cup sifted flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 square chocolate, melted
3/4 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 cup boiling water


Sift the flour once, measure and resift with the salt, 3/4 cup of sugar and baking powder. Add vanilla, melted butter and chocolate to the milk. Add to dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly. Add chopped nuts. Spread in a greased 8-inch square pan. Blend the sugars and cocoa and sprinkle over the top of the batter. Pour the boiling water over all and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes, or until done. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream.
