Ingredients:

1 baked 9-inch pie shell
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk, scalded
2 egg yolks
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

Combine sugar, flour and salt and blend thoroughly. Gradually stir in the scalded milk. Cook over moderate heat until the mixture thickens, then continue to cook about 2 minutes. Pour some of the mixture over the slightly beaten egg yolks, stirring briskly. Return to low heat and cook for 1 minute longer. Add the butter and vanilla and blend thoroughly. Cool. Pour into cooled baked pie shell, top with meringue and bake in a 375 degree oven 12 to 15 minutes, or until the meringue is lightly browned.
