3 quarts gooseberries
4 pounds sugar
1 pint vinegar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
1/2 tablespoon cloves
1 tablespoon allspice
mixed spices


Remove stem and blossom, wash clean, make syrup of sugar and vinegar. Add berries, boil until thick. Add more sugar if necessary. When almost done, spice with cinnamon and cloves. Boil as thick as for apple butter.
