The Mission Ridge Ski Area, located about 12 miles from the Central Washington community of Wenatchee, is open each December through April. Operation of the winter ski area is a partnership between the Wenatchee National Forest, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Mission Ridge Ski Area.

Located well east of the Cascade crest, Mission Ridge is known for its fair weather and cold snow. Just 12 mile from Wenatchee, no other ski hill in Washington matches its nearby amenities or its bed base. Normal winter operations run from mid-December through early April. In summer, the resort accommodates meetings, weddings, and receptions.

On December 11, 1966, Mission Ridge opened its doors with two chairlifts and a controversial $5 lift ticket. Nearly 1500 people were there for the dedication of the Hampton Lodge, which honors Wilmer Hampton and his efforts to create Mission Ridge. This original building is still an integral part of the Mission Ridge Ski Area. After just one season, the need for another chairlift became apparent. Chair #3 was built in 1967, accessing new terrain and providing more protection from the weather on stormy days. Chair #4 was built in 1971, supplying an alternate route out of the base area. The western snow drought of 1976-77 encouraged owners to explore the idea of snowmaking, a fairly new development in the skiing world at that time. Installed in 1978, that snowmaking system allows Mission Ridge to cover the lower third of the mountain with manmade snow.
