The Gibbes Museum of Art displays one of the finest collections of American Art from the Southeast. You can view many pieces of art the were produces from Charleston area artists. The museum has been celebrating its first 100 years in 2005.

The first floor houses the museums permanent collections. You can learn about the history of the people of the lowcountry through many forms of art here. View portraits, landscapes, sculptures, and photographs as well as other types of art. Peer into the rooms of Carl Tunick. The museum has one of the largest collections in the Carl Tunick Gallery. As you view his miniatures you will be amazed with the detail. You could view these over and over finding a new detail each time. In the Japanese Print Gallery you can view many fine examples of this interesting art form that has been passed down through the centuries. You will also see some of the tools used in this art. There is also the Miniature Portrait Gallery and the Alice Smith Gallery that showcases newer art.

KAT'S VIEW

The Gibbes Museum of Art was nice. They had a room of mini-houses. I liked this room the most. It was so cool. You could see back yards, painted china, and music, real music. There was a picture of a house that was controlled by old vines and well plants. No one has taken care of that house in a long time.
