Morris Island Lighthouse
East Ashley Street
Folly Beach, South Carolina 29439
Voice: 843-577-2510

The Morris Island Lighthouse was originally built in 1767 and was destroyed during the Civil War. The new lighthouse was built in 1876. It towers at 161 feet and has 201 steps leading to its top. The lighthouse is viewable form both James Island and Folly Beach. The lighthouse is on a small stretch of sand just off the islands. It is not open for climbing. The currents here are very dangerous and it is not advisable to try to go out to it. We viewed it from Folly Beach, where after a short 1/4 to 1/2 mile walk brought us to a small public beach area where you have an uninterrupted view of the lighthouse.

KAT'S VIEW

The Morris Island Lighthouse was really cool. There was a small beach to come and collect shells. The lighthouse looked really cool and you could see the Sullivan's Island lighthouse in the distance as well. It was really nice. The shells there were nice and there's some pretty cool rock there too.
