The mission of the SC Law Officers Hall of Fame is defined as "a memorial to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and in recognition of the selfless dedication of all law enforcement officers in the day to day performance of their duties." The Hall of Fame has a Memorial Room and a Museum featuring all forms of law enforcement in the State of South Carolina.

The Museum features the history of law enforcement in South Carolina. There are several pictures and artifacts to tell the story. One display includes confiscated gambling and drug items. Things such as one armed bandits, a 'Vegas' wheel, and marijuana and cocaine pipes. Another display showed many of the tools of law enforcement such as guns, handcuffs, radios, a fingerprint kit, and many other items.

The Melvin Purvis Firearms Exhibit and Collection had many types of guns. There were guns and rifles that were some of his own and then there were those that had been used in crimes and some owned by gangsters.

See a jail cell from the SC State Penitentiary that was used form 1932 until the 1970's. You will notice how very small it is. Then there is the restored 1955 Ford Highway Patrol car. There are displays near the front that show most of the badges and patches used in the state from local, county, state, and federal agencies.

The Memorial Room is dedicated to all South Carolina officers killed in the line of duty beginning in 1797 to today. There is a memorial plaque honoring each officer. You can look through the book where there is a page for each officer telling how he was killed in the line of duty protecting the citizen of South Carolina.

KAT'S VIEW

The SC Law Enforcement Hall of Fame was nice. They has a model of an old jail cell. It was tiny. They had square black jack chips, a lie detector test, old hand cuffs and an old padlock. there were also tons of guns and a knife pistol. They also had restored a 1955 Ford Highway Patrol car. The painting was even scratched. There was also a 'bobby' hand puppet. I learned a 'bobby' is a London police officer.
