The Dakota Discovery Museum has a beautiful display of American Indian beadwork and porcupine quillwork including clothing, bags, ceremonial regalia, utilitarian objects, horse gear, dolls and missionary items. Tribes represented in historic quillwork and beadwork displays include Sioux, Meti, Chippewa-Ojibway, and Plains Cree.
Pulitzer prize winning author Hamlin Garland's Middle Border history exhibits from 1600 A.D. to 1939 A.D. features the settlement of North and South Dakota and portions of adjoining states.
Four art galleries feature original works by Oscar Howe, Harvey Dunn, Charles Hargens, James Earle Fraser, Gutzon Borglum and others.
The Changing exhibits gallery features one person shows, emphasizing American Indian artists of the Northern Plains.
