Location of Hampton History Museum Hampton History Museum The Hampton History Museum takes you through a wonderful journey beginning with the first landing all the way to the development of NASA in the area. Begin with the landing of Captain John Smith and the encounter with the Kecoughtan Indians. Hampton is America's oldest permanent English speaking community beginning with these colonists in 1607. The main crop to be used for trade was tobacco. See artifacts and displays showing how tobacco was integral to the area. The meet one of the most notorious 'residents' William Teach. You have heard of him as Blackbeard. In 1718, Blackbeard was finally captured and his head was displayed at the entrance to the Hampton River as a warning to other pirates. Learn of life here during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. The town was ruined in 1861 during the Civil War. Learn how the town recuperated and prospered. KAT'S VIEW The Hampton History Museum was nice. There was a really cool sword there. It was next to a set of Armor. There was an old five dollar bill there too. It was in a case that had a silver and gold coin in it. One of my favorite things there was the history test on a computer at the end of the tour. There were 10 questions. I only got four right. |
