The Virginia Air and Space Center is lots of fun for the entire family. There are hands-on activities all throughout the center. See Apollo 12, the second manned craft to go to the moon. Ask one of the docents and they can tell you several interesting facts about the craft, such as that the outside material was manufactured by Brunswick, the pool table makers! They can also tell you about the many aircraft here.

Jump in the cockpit and take a flight. See how you fare flying a jet. Put on the 'wings' and step in front of the fans to see how the wind affects flight. Step into a real DC-10 and sit in the pilots seat. See how many gages and switches there are to know. Do the experiments and see all the problems the Wright Brothers had to solve.

Space flight has taught us many things about our universe. View an actual moon rock. Stand on the scales and see how much you weigh on different planets. See a prototype of the mars rover and learn about plans for space exploration of the future.

This is not a place to hurry through. You will want plenty of time to immerse yourself into the world of flight from the Wright Brothers to the Space Station. There are so many activities to enjoy. Our family had a great time. And while you are here, take in an IMAX movie.

KAT'S VIEW

The Air and Space Center was so cool! There was a real space capsule there. It was Apollo 12. It had honey core steel on it made by a pool table company. If you looked in the cockpit of an airplane there you would see all the buttons on it. There were tons of them. You could fly a plane (I crashed!) and you could fly a fighter jet (I crashed again!). We also saw an IMAX movie about a fighter pilot.
