Lackawanna Bed and Breakfast is located in the small town of Front Royal along the Shenandoah River. Outdoor activities abound with various water sports like canoeing and rafting. There is also lots of hiking and horseback riding nearby. After a busy day you will welcome the quiet comfort awaiting you at Lackawanna.

The home was built in 1869, with all the elegance befitting the principle owner of the Riverton Mill. The house was perhaps the grandest in the area when it was built. After many years and many owners, the house was in sad shape when your hosts Phil and Sandy Charles purchased it in October 1998. The remarkable facts that the woodwork is all original and the house remains structurally the same as when it was built prompted them to choose this home to restore.

Today, after much work, there are three rooms for guests to choose from. There is the "Charles", named after their grandson, and the "Rose". These two rooms are both elegantly furnished and have clawfoot tubs in the bathrooms. The "Studio" has a sitting area and a walk-in shower. Each room features an electric fireplace and special personal touches. All three rooms are upstairs and there is also a sitting area in the large hallway with a loveseat and a chair with a massager. There is a foot massager, too, that is very popular with guests after a day of hiking.

Downstairs, guests can relax in the parlor and enjoy some soft music. You can also choose to sit in the "Dog's Room", a comfortable den where the owner's dogs make themselves at home and are likely to curl up in your lap to be pet and pampered! There is also a bar where you can pour yourself a glass of wine as you relax and talk about your day. After a busy day it is nice to take a dip in the swimming pool and enjoy a beautiful sunset over the mountains.

Breakfast is an elegant affair with fine china and silver, served at your choice of time. You are given a menu when you arrive so you can choose what you would like to have served for your breakfast. There are many delicious choices to choose from and it will be hot and ready when you are.
