Montpelier was the home of President James Madison and his wife the First Lady Dolley Madison. There beautiful plantation once was busy with many slaves and the business of our great nation. Today it is a quiet place to visit and see just how our great leader helped to forge America. A great deal of his slaves were buried in the unmarked cemetery. Today you can see some of their markers marked with small tags. The Madison Family Cemetery is a much different story. They have very nice headstones and it is very well kept. Even after hundreds of years of moving forward the difference in the cemeteries clearly show that in some eyes people are still not equal.
