While the area around what is now Herndon began settlement in the 1700's, it was in 1857 with the coming of the railroad that spurred development of the town. A post office was established at the railroad depot. The town was incorporated in 1879. About this same time city families began vacationing in the country and this began the construction of several spacious summer houses. Today you can walk the historic district and learn about the history and development of the town. You will want to start your tour at the Depot on Lynn Street. |
