The Yorktown Victory Monument stands for all to see. It represents the union of the American and French forces to defeat the British creating independence for the colonies. Just 10 days after General Cornwallis conceded defeat, this monument was sanctioned by the new United States government and General Washington. It took another 100 years before the money was available and the monument was built.
