Mount Vernon Mansion
A tour through the mansion shows Washington's creativity as an architect and designer. He personally oversaw every detail of design, construction, and decoration. Each of the 14 rooms open for viewing has been meticulously restored and furnished based on a 1799 inventory.
The home is presented by guides stationed throughout the mansion to describe the house, provide information about the Washington's and answer your questions. The mansion features original furnishings, items owned by the Washington family, 18th century objects, and a small number of reproductions. These objects bring to life how Mount Vernon would have looked during the time when the Washington's lived here. Vibrant wall colors, reconstructed after careful paint analysis, demonstrate the Washington's wealth and sense of fashion.
