The Francis Land House is believed to have been built sometime in the 18th century by the 5th or 6th generation of Land's to live here. The first Land family came to the area in the first half of the 17th century.

The Land family owned the property consisting of over 1000 acres until the early 1800's. Since that time the house passed through many hands and was remodeled and added on to.

When you visit the house you will see three rooms furnished with period furniture and other objects. There are some very interesting pieces. The main part of the house is still mostly the original structure. It is believed that the bricks were made on the plantation. The mortar was made from ground oyster shell and has held up for 200 years. On your visit be sure to check out the gardens. There is also a history park and trail where you can learn even more about the lifestyle of the early settlers.

KAT'S VIEW

The house was very interesting. They had a handmade and hand painted backgammon board. In one room they also had some Indian items. There was some animal hides including a skunk. They had a necklace made out of a snake spine. There were lots of arrow heads too.
