Surrey House Restaurant and Country Inn

The Surrey House Restaurant and Country Inn is across the James River from Jamestown and Williamsburg. A 15 minute free ferry ride takes travelers across the river 24 hours a day. The good down-home cooking makes the short trip well worth it. Opened in 1954, they have been serving the area for over 50 years. The Inn was opened in 1968 and has recently been remodeled. There are 11 nice clean rooms with either two double beds or a king size bed.  They have a refrigerator and microwave combo as well.

The Restaurant is open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Breakfast is a full menu with many choices whether you just want something light or a little of everything. The Edward's Virginia Ham with eggs the way you like them is a great choice. Breakfast meats, eggs, waffles, grits, they do it all. You can start your day right in a true Southern fashion.

Lunch and dinner has mouth watering choices. It is hard to decide. The most popular choice is the Surrey House Soup Special with comes with 3 ham rolls, a cup of soup (peanut soup is the favorite), apple fritter, and a slice of pie. Of course being in the heart of peanut country the favorite choice again is Peanut Raisin Pie. The full menu has lots of scrumptious choices including seafood, BBQ, steak, chicken, Edward's Virginia ham, and sandwiches and burgers. Having trouble making up your mind? Try the Surrey House Sampler that comes with a ham roll, Chesapeake Bay crabcake, golden fried ham croquette, and tangy BBQ ribs. Enjoy one of their delicious Old Fashioned Root Beer Floats to top off your meal.

The motto here is "Nobody Leaves Hungry" and that certainly is true. We enjoyed the food so much we could not pick out a favorite. It was all terrific. Even our picky daughter tried everything and left full. As we said, it is well worth the trip across the river. The whole family will enjoy it.
