Washington State is located in the upper western-most point of the continental United States. Inside this state is like a mini composite of the entire country. From the ocean beaches to the high mountain ranges, the desert plains and flowing wheat fields, the big cities and the tiny communities, it is all here in Washington. Starting on the western side you have the Olympic Rainforest providing lush green vegetation and many coastal communities along the Pacific Ocean. Seattle is located along Puget Sound and has a very temperate climate. Rising up to the east of Seattle is the Cascade Mountain Range which divides the state and offers the beautiful Mount Rainier with the most defined glacial system of the continental U.S. and Mount St. Helens, known for is volcanic eruptions of the 1980's. Central and Eastern Washington is considered a desert because of its low amount of precipitation. This side of the state has mostly farming communities. Washington State is world-famous for its apples and cherries as well as many other fruits and vegetables. Many people visit eastern Washington to tour the award-winning wineries.
