The quiet, peaceful waters of Discovery Bay once served as an anchorage for wooden tall ships. Captain George Vancouver discovered the bay in 1792 and named it for his flagship, the Discovery. During the 1850's, ships were used to carry wood to and from a sawmill that was built on the bay. Modern visitors to the area have the opportunity to view the remains of an old railroad structure at the south end of the bay.

Today, Discovery Bay is a popular stop along highway 101 for those who are looking to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, relaxed environment or great fishing and shell fishing in the area.
