Location of Maryhill's Stonehenge Memorial Maryhill's Stonehenge Memorial was built by Sam Hill, who purchased a large portion of land overlooking the beautiful Columbia River. He named the area after his daughter, Mary. He built the monument to honor the Klickitat County soldiers who lost their lives in World War I. Dedicated in 1918, this was the first monument built to honor WWI soldiers. It was another twelve years before the replica was completed. The monument was built to scale out of reinforced concrete.
