Goldendale was given its name in 1872 by John Golden, who helped settle the town. In 1878, Goldendale became the county seat. Farmers and ranchers of the area grew hay and wheat, fruits and vegetables and raised horses and sheep. Today, Goldendale is still the county seat and is the commercial and banking center for the area. This is still a small town where people know each other. Many of the residents have lived here their entire lives and come from the original pioneer families of the area. They enjoy lots of outdoor activities in this area like horseback riding, hunting, fishing, water sports and snow sports. |
