Fort Nisqually
5400 North Pearl Street #11
Tacoma, Washington 98407
Voice: 253-591-5339

Fort Nisqually is a historical monument as well as a living, breathing museum. Employees walk about in full costume, displaying different crafts and hosting events where they re-enact the history of the fort. Fort Nisqually was built in 1833 and is known for being the first European settlement on the Puget Sound. Rather than being a battle station to dominate the area, Fort Nisqually was a trade center. At any given time, a wide variety of people were present. After being successful in trade, Fort Nisqually became an exporter of crops and livestock. Fort Nisqually was closed in 1869 and slowly decayed. Decades later, it was restored to its present state as a tourist attraction. Fort Nisqually is located in Point Defiance Park and is a registered historical location.
