Much of the North Cascade Mountains is located in the North Cascades National Park. The mountains provide the scenic wonders of jagged peaks, deep valleys, cascading waterfalls, and over 300 glaciers. The mountains, forests, rivers and lakes provide a memorable experience for all ages and abilities. Hiking is abundant with close to 400 miles of trails to explore. From short walks for the young family to world class mountaineering hikes for the most experienced and everything in between there are trails for all to enjoy. Take scenic drives, camp, nature watch, go boating and fishing. This is an outdoor experience not to be missed.

The weather varies greatly in the North Cascades depending on season and location. A thick layer of snow buries the Cascades from autumn to spring. Summer is the best time to enjoy these mountains. The west slopes and high peaks receive most of the moisture coming from the Pacific Ocean. You will find more lush and temperate evergreen forests in these areas. The lower east slopes are more shielded from this moisture and tend to be warmer and dryer.

It is important to remember that mountain weather is unpredictable and sudden changes can occur. Storm are common even in the summer, so be prepared.
