Location of Yakima Greenway Yakima Greenway The Yakima Greenway is a ten mile long walking/biking pathway that runs along the north and east sides of Yakima. The path begins at Myron Lake near 40th Avenue and ends in Union Gap near the Valley Mall. Most of the Greenway runs between the freeway (Highway 12 and I-82) and the Naches and Yakima Rivers. There are 7 access/parking areas where you can start or end your trip to the Greenway: Myron Lake: Behind Don's Dry Dock on Fruitvale Blvd. 6th Ave: Take 6th Avenue under the Railroad Bridge over the Naches River. Harlan Landing: Take Rest Haven Road exit off of I-82 just after the Bridge over the Yakima River. Rotary Lake Parking: Turn right on East R Street from North 1st Street and go all the way to the end and turn onto Freeway Lake Road. Take this dirt road under the freeway to the parking area. Sarg Hubbard Park: Located just off of Yakima Avenue/Terrace Heights Drive near the Greenway Auto Mall and Wal-Mart. Sherman Park: Located off of Valley Mall Blvd. on the east side of I-82 by the Humane Society. The Greenway is a great place to go if you want to take a walk, ride your bike, or skate/rollerblade where you can catch a glimpse of wildlife and see a beautiful view of the city. It is also a great place to go if you are looking for quality fishing spots. There are two lakes (Myron and Rotary Lakes). Both offer good trout fishing. The Yakima River is one of the best trout streams in the United States. The Naches is also a very good trout fishery. Both streams offer whitefish angling in the winter as well. Greenway facilities are open to the public for free year-round from dawn to dusk. The Yakima Greenway path was designated as a National Recreational Trail by the U.S. Department of the Interior and is patrolled by Yakima and Union Gap Bicycle Police and the Courtesy Carts (golf carts rigged with water coolers). Maintenance is funded by the Yakima Greenway Foundation through annual membership fees, donations, reservation fees for facilities, and several fundraising events such as the Gap-to-Gap Relay Race, Big Buck Raffle, and A Case of the Blues & All That Jazz. |
