Who we are

Potteus vineyards produces estate bottled wines from our 47 acre vineyard established in 1981 on the slopes of the Rattlesnake Hills in South Central Washington State. Our wines reflect the vintage variations of varietal wines from a single vineyard. They always show rich, black fruit flavors and an elegant balance of soft tannins, fruit, oak and acids. These traits have earned our wines over 100 awards, including gold medals for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and zinfandel.

Varietals

Chardonnay, our only white wine, is made in the classic French Montrachet style. Rich and complex, but not too oaky or fruity, its just right. Zinfandel was planted in 1984. Our home grown Zin has garnered many national awards, including two vintages of Gold Medals at the World Wine Championships. Our Syrah was first produced in 1995 and has consistently maintained rich black color with huckleberry fruit flavors. Small quantities of Cab Franc have been bottled since the early 90's. this varietal is similar to Merlot, with more dried herb, fig & blueberry flavors.

Most Merlots are herbal or vegetal in flavor, what sets our Merlot apart is the incredible fruit flavors. Soft and elegant, as Merlot should be, aged in small Hungarian Oak barrels to add a delicious creamy vanilla layer for your enjoyment. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in two styles, "Regular" (American Oak) and "Reserve" (French Oak). Every single vintage has won a medal, including seven Godless and three Best of Shows. Classic flavors of cassis, blackberry and chocolate blend with clove, spice and toasty vanilla from the oak while soft tannins provide structure and balance.

We offer two blends to complement our single vineyard varietals. Our Estate Reserve is a high end "Bordeauz" style wine or our very affordable Rattlesnake Red red table wine will leave your eyes rolling.
