Named after the Indians who inhabited the area, Cheyenne is Wyoming's capital and largest city. Cheyenne is home to many great attractions like the State Capital Building. Built in 1887, it features a gold-leaf dome and is open for tours each weekday. Cheyenne features several museums including the Old West Museum at Frontier Park, the Wyoming State Museum and the Nelson Museum of the West. The Wyoming Fish and Game Department Visitor Center explains Wyoming's 600 animal species. There are also several historical sites scattered throughout Cheyenne like the Historic Governor's Mansion, the French Merci Train, Engine 1242 and F.E. Warren Air Force Base. |
