Location of Yellowstone National Park Yellowstone Lake Yellowstone National Park Yellowstone Lake is a huge alpine lake that covers 136 square miles in the eastern half of Yellowstone National Park. The lake sits in a large crater that was formed by a collapsed volcano and carved out by glaciers 12,000 years ago. Yellowstone Lake's deep blue waters are full of native cutthroat trout. The lake is also surrounded by moose, bison, bears, elk, deer and waterfowl. |
